As Bettina’s student for the last eight years, my own physique has improved beyond recognition with only an hour per week of lessons and classes. Having been a competitive cyclist and a marathon runner I’m attuned to endurance sports. While Pilates made sense to me, it never struck me to give it a try.

A couple of years ago I started to experience pain in my right leg. Pain that grew from uncomfortable to really annoying: on bad days running was impossible, sitting in a car or plan and even lying in bed hurt.

After six months of seeing various orthopedics and PT’s, a diagnosis of inflamed hamstring, antibiotics and no improvement, one doctor started to suggested that the pain may come from my sciatic nerve, triggered by a bulged disc. Bettina suggested giving Pilates a try before considering surgery. She gave me simple daily exercises that I could perform in my hotel room while traveling. I still was not convinced that this would help but it was worth a try. After just a week my leg felt better and after three weeks I was pain free. And I am pain free to this date.
